Gamma vs Beautiful.ai: speed of the first draft against control of the brand

By Sellside Stack Editorial · Prices as of November 2026

Gamma and Beautiful.ai both promise a finished-looking deck from a prompt. They are built around different ideas. Gamma is a generator: give it an outline, a memo or a PDF and it produces a full deck, document or web page, metered in AI credits. Beautiful.ai is a design system: "Smart Slides" re-lay themselves out as you add content, and the Team plan locks slides and themes so several authors stay on brand.

For a dealmaker, two less glamorous questions decide it. Does the tool train on what you paste in? And can the output live in PowerPoint, where your compliance and document-management processes already work?

How we evaluate

For a deal, IR or founder audience we weight:

  1. Data governance (30%). Training defaults, retention, certifications, SSO and admin controls.
  2. Drafting speed and quality for narrative slides (25%). Situation overview, investment highlights, market context, use of proceeds.
  3. Brand and template control (20%). Can several authors stay on one look, and how close can you get to a corporate template?
  4. PowerPoint round-trip (15%). Can the deck move into the firm's supervised file formats without rework?
  5. Real cost (10%). Price per seat for the plan you actually need, including credit top-ups.

We have not built client decks with either tool. Feature descriptions come from vendor documentation unless marked.

The question that settles it for regulated users: training

Gamma's help centre is unusually explicit. On individual workspaces (Free, Plus, Pro and Ultra), the default is that "data is allowed to be used to train AI models." Users can opt out at any time in Settings → Data Controls. On Business and Enterprise workspaces, training is automatically excluded and "this setting is locked."

That matters more than it looks. A founder who pastes cap-table figures into a personal Pro account, or an analyst who drafts a teaser on an individual Plus plan, has, by default, allowed Gamma to train on it. Paying for a plan does not change that. Switching to Business, or turning off the setting, does.

Beautiful.ai's security page takes a different position. Its generative AI runs on "business-tier APIs" from major AI platforms, data processed by those models "will not be used to train public LLM models," and it is retained "for a maximum of 30 days" for abuse monitoring. Content added directly to slides (pasted text, uploads, charts) is not processed by the generative AI backends, and generative AI "can be disabled for your company's account upon request."

Neither position is a substitute for your own IT and compliance approval. But for a confidential raise or a pre-announcement IR deck, Beautiful.ai's default is safer, and Gamma is only comparable on Business.

The reviews

1. Gamma: the fastest route from outline to narrative deck

Visit Gamma →

Gamma generates full presentations, documents, websites and social graphics from a prompt or an imported PDF or PPTX, and exports to PDF, PPTX, PNG and Google Slides. AI work is metered in credits. Pro adds custom branding, detailed analytics and advanced sharing, and Ultra adds the most advanced models. Business, at $40 per member per month billed annually, adds SSO, 10,000 monthly credits per member, SOC 2 documentation on request and the locked training opt-out. Enterprise adds SCIM, audit logs and invoiced billing. Gamma's Trust Center lists SOC 2 Type II, with the 2026 report and penetration test available on request.

Third-party readings of Gamma's help centre also note two cost details. Refunds are only available within three days of subscribing and under a credit-use threshold, and per-member billing means every workspace member, admins included, is a paid seat.

Workflow fit: A founder turns a two-page memo into a 15-slide Series A narrative in an afternoon, then rebuilds every number by hand from the model.

Who it's for: Founders, operators and small IR teams producing narrative decks quickly. Skip it if: You are on an individual plan and the content is confidential, or the deck must live in your firm's master template.

Cons: - Training on by default on every individual plan. - Credits make cost per deck unpredictable on heavy use. - Native Gamma layouts lose some fidelity when exported to PowerPoint.

2. Beautiful.ai: consistency for teams that present every quarter

Visit Beautiful.ai →

Beautiful.ai's Pro plan is $14.50/month billed annually and includes unlimited AI content generation, more than 300 Smart Slide layouts, custom themes, viewer analytics and PowerPoint import and export. Team adds real-time collaboration, a central slide and template library, version control and locked slides, a shared asset library, live data linking to charts and tables, and engagement tracking. Enterprise adds SAML SSO, SCIM, audit logs, advanced permissions and configurable brand guardrails. The security page lists SOC 2 Type II, GDPR, CCPA and PCI certifications and annual third-party penetration tests.

Pricing needs care. As of November 2026, the pricing page shows Team at $40/month billed annually ($50 monthly), with the plan card saying it "includes 3 users" and "fixed pricing for up to three users," while the FAQ on the same page says $40 per user per month for teams of 2 to 20. A third-party pricing review flagged the same contradiction. Confirm which applies before you sign. The 14-day trial requires a card and charges in full unless you cancel, monthly plans are non-refundable, and annual refunds are only considered within 24 hours of purchase or renewal.

Workflow fit: An IR team keeps the quarterly results deck, investor-day deck and roadshow deck on one locked theme, with a shared slide library so three authors don't drift.

Who it's for: IR, corporate-development and marketing teams producing recurring branded decks. Skip it if: You must work inside a corporate PowerPoint master, or you want a deck generated from a long document in one shot.

Cons: - Contradictory Team pricing on its own page. - SSO, SCIM and audit logs are Enterprise-only. - Its own design system, not your template.

3. If you live in PowerPoint: Plus AI or Microsoft 365 Copilot

Visit Plus AI → Visit Microsoft 365 Copilot →

For bankers and corporate teams whose decks must stay in PowerPoint or Google Slides, neither web-native tool is ideal. Plus AI runs as an add-in inside both. Plans are Basic $10, Pro $20, Team $30 and Max $200 per user per month, billed annually. Team adds custom branding, and Enterprise adds custom templates built from your organisation's own slide masters, plus SSO. Plus AI states SOC 2 Type II compliance. All paid plans start with a seven-day trial that needs a card and charges automatically. If your firm already licenses Microsoft 365 Copilot, that is the other obvious route. Our AI pitch deck tool guide covers both.

Practical rules for any AI deck tool

  1. Numbers come from the model, not the AI. Rebuild every figure on a slide from a sourced workbook.
  2. Check the training setting before the first paste, not after.
  3. Export to PPTX into your document system so compliance can review a static file rather than a live link.
  4. Watch link sharing. Both tools offer viewer analytics and shareable links; a forwarded live link is a distribution event.
  5. Get IT approval first. A SOC 2 badge does not make an unapproved vendor approved.

FAQ

Is Gamma or Beautiful.ai better for a startup pitch deck? Gamma is faster for a first draft from an outline or memo. Use a Business workspace, or turn off training in Data Controls, if the deck contains anything confidential. Beautiful.ai is better if you will keep iterating on a polished, consistent design.

Does Gamma train on my presentations? On individual plans (Free, Plus, Pro and Ultra), yes by default, with an opt-out in Settings. On Business and Enterprise, training is excluded and the setting is locked.

Does Beautiful.ai train on my data? Beautiful.ai says its AI sub-processors are barred from using customer data for training, that API data is kept for at most 30 days, and that generative AI can be disabled for a company account on request.

Can I export Gamma or Beautiful.ai decks to PowerPoint? Yes. Gamma exports to PPTX, PDF, PNG and Google Slides. Beautiful.ai offers editable PowerPoint export. Expect some layout clean-up when moving from either tool's native format into a corporate template.

Which is cheaper for a three-person team? On list prices as of November 2026, Gamma Business costs $120/month for three seats billed annually. Beautiful.ai Team is either $40/month or $120/month for three users depending on which line of its pricing page applies, so confirm before buying.

Verdict

Gamma wins on speed. It is the better tool for turning raw material into a narrative deck, but only on a Business workspace, where training is locked off and SSO is included. Beautiful.ai wins on control and on its default data posture, which makes it the better long-term home for IR and corporate-development teams producing recurring branded decks. For bank pitchbooks and anything that must sit in a firm master template, choose a PowerPoint-native tool instead.
