Attio vs Affinity vs HubSpot: the best CRM for venture capital and dealflow

By Sellside Stack Editorial · Prices as of November 2026

A dealflow CRM fails in one predictable way: partners stop updating it. Within six months the pipeline view is fiction and the real state of play lives in inboxes and a spreadsheet the associate keeps. So the question that matters is not which CRM has the most features. It is which one captures relationships and activity automatically enough that the data stays true without anyone typing.

The three names that come up most for venture, growth and PE teams take very different approaches. Affinity is purpose-built for private capital. Attio is a flexible, modern CRM popular with startups and newer funds. HubSpot is the generalist sales platform that many funds and corporate-development teams already know.

How we evaluate

  1. Automatic capture (30%). Does the CRM build and update people, company and interaction records from email and calendar without manual entry?
  2. Private-capital workflow fit (25%). Pipeline stages, portfolio monitoring, LP tracking, co-investor mapping, warm-intro discovery.
  3. AI that saves time (15%). Meeting briefs, record updates, natural-language queries over firm data, ability to connect the firm's approved AI assistant.
  4. Security and permissions (15%). Certifications, deal-level permissions, audit trails.
  5. Total cost (15%). Seat price, onboarding, credits, data add-ons.

We have not deployed these systems. Where we rely on third parties we say so.

The reviews

1. Affinity: the private-capital specialist

Visit Affinity →

Affinity's case is simple: it was built for firms whose edge is their network. It automatically captures email, calendar and meeting activity across the firm, enriches records from 40+ data sources, and scores relationship strength so a partner can see who at the firm knows a founder best and how warm the relationship is. In July 2026 it launched Affinity Ascend, a set of agents for meeting prep, warm-intro mapping and keeping CRM records current, alongside AI Chat (natural-language queries with "sources used", and confirm-before-execute record changes). Its MCP server, which exposes CRM data to Claude, Gemini, Copilot and others, is included from the Scale tier. The meeting Notetaker is listed on Advanced.

Security is a strength: SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001, deal-level permissions (someone can be a full CRM user and still see nothing about a deal they are not staffed on), audit trails, and IP allowlists on Advanced. Affinity says customer data is not shared or used to train models.

Pricing is now published: Essential $2,000, Scale $2,300 and Advanced $2,700 per user per year, all sales-led. One fund-operations blog notes the sticker price is rarely the final number once data and integrations are scoped.

Workflow fit: Monday pipeline meeting. The deal list is current because activity was captured automatically, and each new company shows the strongest internal relationship path to the founder.

Who it's for: Established VC and PE firms, growth funds and private-capital advisers with 5–200 investment professionals. Skip it if: You are a two-person fund on a tight budget, or you need to model unusual objects such as a holding company's acquisitions or a syndicate structure.

Cons: - Most expensive per seat of the three; every tier goes through sales. - Notetaker and premium enrichment sit on the top tier. - Less flexible data model than Attio for non-standard workflows.

2. Attio: the flexible modern CRM

Visit Attio →

Attio has become the default for many newer funds because it combines automatic contact syncing and enrichment with a data model you can shape to your process. A fund can create objects for deals, funds, LPs, portfolio KPIs and scouts without consultants. Since July 2026 its pricing is Free (up to 3 seats), Plus $35 and Pro $79 per seat per month on annual billing ($44/$99 monthly), with Enterprise quoted. AI features (Ask Attio, workflows, agents) run on monthly credit pools, and an MCP server, API, webhooks and workflows are available on every tier.

Workflow fit: An emerging manager builds a pipeline, an LP fundraising tracker and a portfolio KPI view in one workspace in a week, then lets Ask Attio answer "which seed-stage fintech companies did we meet in Q3 and pass on?"

Who it's for: Emerging managers, solo GPs, accelerators, platform teams, and corporate-development teams that want a modern tool. Skip it if: Your procurement requires a SOC 2 report. A third-party review found Attio's Trust Center lists ISO 27001, GDPR and CCPA but not SOC 2. Ask Attio directly.

Cons: - Plus caps the workspace at 10 seats; moving to Pro is a big step up (about 2.3x per seat). - Credit pools can run out mid-month for heavy AI users, requiring paid packs. - Relationship-strength and warm-intro intelligence are less mature than Affinity's private-capital-specific scoring.

3. HubSpot Sales Hub: the generalist that might already be in the building

Visit HubSpot →

HubSpot is a sales platform, not a dealflow tool. But if your firm also runs marketing, a portfolio services function, or corporate development inside an operating company, one system has real advantages. Sales Hub pricing: Starter from $20/seat/month; Professional $90/seat/month annual ($100 monthly) plus a one-time $1,500 onboarding fee; Enterprise $150/seat/month plus $3,500 onboarding. Plans include 500, 3,000 and 5,000 HubSpot Credits a month respectively. Breeze AI Assistant is on every plan, with Notetaker and prospecting/data agents from Starter. Custom objects, which a fund needs to model deals, funds and LPs properly, are on Enterprise.

Who it's for: Corporate-development teams already on HubSpot, firms with significant marketing operations, platform teams running portfolio-company programmes. Skip it if: You want relationship intelligence and warm-intro mapping out of the box.

Cons: - No native private-capital data model; custom objects need Enterprise. - Mandatory onboarding fees on Professional and Enterprise. - Seat and credit packaging is complex and changes often. We saw different Starter prices on different HubSpot pages.

Verdict

For an established venture or PE firm, Affinity is the best CRM for dealflow in 2026. Automatic capture plus relationship intelligence is what keeps a private-capital CRM true, and its Ascend agents and MCP access are aimed squarely at deal teams. Attio is the better choice for emerging managers and lean teams that value flexibility and cost, provided your LPs or procurement do not require a SOC 2 report you cannot get. HubSpot makes sense only when it is already the firm's system of record or corporate development sits inside a business that runs on it.
